Great News! Lights Approved!
Emails from VSA Members Deemed Key to Approval

In a recent meeting of the Board of County Supervisors, an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan Land Use Chapter, proposed by Chairman Corey Stewart, was approved that clears the way for lights at James Long Park as well as other county parks.  VSA wishes to thank Chairman Stewart, Gainesville Supervisor John Stirrup, and Brenstville Supervisor Wally Covington for their work in fixing this long standing problem for the sports community.  The supervisors likewise want to express their thanks to the VSA members for their overwhelming support through emails and public hearing attendance that brought this matter to the Board's attention and paved the way for passage of the legislation.

Winter Field Conditions

All grass fields are closed through March. The turf fields are open unless they are covered in snow or there is ice or frost on them. Playing on the fields in these conditions will cause the blades to break. Please help us to maintain our quality fields.

New Park Coming to Linton Hall Area

VSA officials got a first look at plans for a new park in the Linton Hall area. The 66 acre park bordered by Rollins Ford Road and Glenkirk Rd. may have up to 8 soccer fields, including a stadium field with artificial turf, parking, bathroom facilities, a concession stand, and a walking trail around the perimeter. Construction may begin by the first of the year.  Thanks to Brenstville Supervisor Wally Covington for his work to make this a reality.

VSA Welcomes Gus Donolo
As Technical Director

The VSA Board has anounced the hiring of Gus Donolo as the new VSA Technical Director who will oversee all coach and player development initiatives.  "We are delighted to have Gus on our team as we move forward with important steps in making VSA the premier soccer club in Northern Virginia", says Dave Milne VSA President. "I’m very impressed with Gus’ talents but particularly with his ability to relate to the kids and help them to reach their full potential".  As owner of "Soccer the Brazilian Way" Gus is already a familiar face around the VSA fields. As a player, Gus rose to the top ranks of South American soccer playing on first division teams in Brazil and Argentina.  As a coach, Gus has led several youth teams to State and National Championships.
Gus will get right to work managing travel team tryouts this June and establishing the beginnings of our new Academy Program for travel players.  In addition, Gus will be preparing a comprehensive, age appropriate training manual for each of our recreation program age groups, will begin planning the coach training clinics for the Fall season, and will conduct several summer camp sessions at Long Park for players.
Please give Gus a warm welcome when you encounter him!

Help Protect the Artificial Turf Fields

Water only on the artificial fields...No MUD, food, gum, candy, seeds, sports drinks, sodas, or coffee.  These things can gum up the in-fill and drainage system, plus cause mold and bacteria to grow.  Please no pets on the artificial fields.  Smoking and noise makers are not allowed at any of the VSA fields.  Click continue to see a picture history of the construction.

Donate to the VSA Field Fund
All proceeds will go to installation of new artificial turf fields at Long Park

Sportsmanship Expectations
The Virginia Soccer Association has certain expectations of exemplary sportsmanship on the part of the teams, players, coaches, volunteers, and parents participating in the league. The soccer skills that we teach our players will serve many of them well into adulthood.  In addition, all our players will benefit through-out their lives by what we teach them about sportsmanship, respect for their opponent, respect for the officials, and dignity.
