What options are available during registration?
During registration, you will have the following options to aid in team placement:
-
Practice location preference (Haymarket or Linton Hall area). Please note that specific field requests will not be granted and requests are not guaranteed.
-
Practice day preferences. Please note that these practice days are not guaranteed, but are organized to the best of our ability. Also note that practice time requests will not be granted.
-
Team Preference- indicate whether or not you would like to be placed on the same team as the previous Fall season. This request is not guaranteed.
Who can I contact if I have questions regarding registration and my son/daughter’s age group?
For all questions regarding the Recreation program, please contact Chad Mateer at cmateer@vsaonline.org.
Can my child play on a friend or neighbor’s team?
Unfortunately, VSA cannot honor these requests. The only way to arrange this is for parents of each child to agree to coach the same team together. Otherwise, only siblings in the same age group will be guaranteed to be placed on the same team.
Can my child play up a division?
No players will be allowed to play up. Players must play within their birth year.
Can my child play down a division?
No child is allowed to play down a division for insurance purposes. This request cannot be honored for any reason.
Can my two children play on the same team?
If your children fall into the same division then VSA will automatically place them on the same team. If you wish them on different teams you will need to notify the registrar after you have registered.
If I want to coach, will I be coaching my child’s team?
Yes, all coaches will have their child on their team.
Can I coach more than one team?
If practice schedules permit, you will be able to coach more than one team. Please note that practice schedules do not always allow for this to happen, but we do our best to accommodate coaches who volunteer for more than one team.
Can I coach with a friend or neighbor?
You may request someone to coach with and every effort will be made to honor the request.
Please be sure that you have indicated you can practice on the same nights and that your children fall into the same division. To coach with someone in particular, please note in the requests section on volunteer page of registration “coach with FULL NAME”.
Can I request nights and times that I am available to coach?
When volunteering to coach, you are able to request your nights and times to coach. Your practice night request will need to be consistent with your child’s practice night request. Please note that practice days and times are not guaranteed but we do our best to honor these requests for our volunteer coaches.
Can players make a request for a practice time?
No, requests for practice times will not be honored for players. We do our best to accommodate those requests from coaches.
Will my children practice on the same nights and same times?
Every effort is made to put players from the same family on the same practice nights. In the event that there is only one team in the player’s division, (this sometimes happens for older teams) there is no guarantee that that team will practice the same night as your other children.
Due to the amount of players and teams in our program, players are not guaranteed to practice at the same time each night.
What times are practices?
Practice slots will vary. Practice slots will begin at 5:00pm each day.

Matches for U5 through U12 divisions are played on Saturdays at Long Park beginning at 9:00 am and running through late afternoon. The schedule for the season is posted on the website.

What happens to my child’s registration if I sign up during late registration?
All players who register after the cutoff date are considered late registrants and are placed on a holding list. The league determines the number of teams based on those who registered on time and then will remove players off the holding list as space permits. All players are removed from this list based on their registration date. The sooner you register the better your chances of being placed on a team. If we are unable to remove your child from the holding list before the season starts they will be put on a waiting list and you will be emailed when a spot opens up in their age group.
What happens if my child does not get on a team?
You will be notified if your child cannot be placed on a team by the second match of the season and your registration fee will be refunded.
What if my child wants to withdraw from the league?
Qualified withdrawals will be granted at the discretion of VSA less a withdrawal fee ($10 - Little Gunners, $20 Rec and $25 SFL). Late fees will not be refunded. Qualified withdrawals are due to injury, illness or moving out of state. Documentation may be required before refunds are processed. This is documented in the VSA financial policy when registering your child for recreation soccer.
Where can I get the Recreation and/or SFL Nike Uniform kit?
Soccer.com is our supplier of our top class Nike uniform kit. You can order this kit, and several other VSA gear options if you CLICK HERE.
What equipment does my child need to play soccer?
All players must wear shin guards to all practices and matches. Please also have a water bottle. Soccer balls are recommended but not required. Cleats are not required, but most players do have them. See the playing guidelines on the website for information as to ball size for each division.
How do I know my child's practice and game schedule?
VSA uses the Demosphere app for all schedules and communication. Please download the app from the app store. Please click HERE to view the Get Started Guide.
