Winter Goalkeeping
It is that time of year again! We are very excited for our Winter 2025-26 Goalkeeping Program and for this year to be the best year yet! This training program will run alongside team training throughout January and February. This Winter program will give us the opportunity to fine tune our strengths and to address our areas of improvement without the pressures of games on the weekends.
The Winter Goalkeeping Program will serve as an opportunity for young goalkeepers to learn new concepts and proper technique, while giving older more experienced goalkeepers a training ground to improve on their current abilities. Come out and have fun learning!
All sessions will be run by Directors of Goalkeeping Justin Ennis and Ethan McGrath along with VSA Staff.
Topics
-
Own the box - pick off a cross and begin the counter; drop back; parrying the ball over the crossbar
-
Shot stopping-1v1 situations; extension diving
-
Short – long range passes (distribution); play-through or play around
-
Positioning - awareness of your position to narrow the angle of shot
The curriculum is designed with methods to teach every player to solve problems in all areas of the field through developing technical abilities. Players will be challenged to help them get identified to compete at the next level.
